Are Compression Bags Necessary for a Short Trip? Uses, Space Gains, and Limits

A compression bag can make a soft pile smaller; it cannot make the contents weigh less. That distinction decides whether it solves your problem. If a suitcase closes easily but exceeds a carrier's weight limit, compression does nothing for compliance and may make the dense load less obvious.
