Check what Tolan says about chat data and account controls

If you are deciding whether to share ordinary personal details with Tolan, the company’s public FAQ and privacy policy provide a useful but limited picture. Tolan says conversations are logged and used to create a character’s memory. Its privacy policy describes what information may be collected, how it may be used or disclosed, and how to request deletion. Those documents can help you make a sharing decision, but they cannot prove absolute safety or guarantee how every piece of data is handled in every situation. This check is for someone considering routine use of the Tolan app and wanting to understand the company’s own public statements. It is based on the Tolan FAQ and privacy policy, which was marked “Last Updated: 8/24/26” when reviewed.

Section 1

Does Tolan log conversations and use them for memory?

Yes. The FAQ says that conversations in the app are logged and used to generate a Tolan’s memory. It also says the logs are kept on the company’s servers and used to improve the app experience. In other words, a conversation should not be treated as a private note that disappears as soon as you finish chatting: the company describes retaining conversation logs for product functionality.

The privacy policy adds detail about the kinds of interaction data the service may receive. It says that interactions can include text, audio information such as sound or voice recordings, and image data. It also says personal information included in prompts may be collected and could be reproduced in the service’s outputs. That is a reason to think about what you type, say, or upload, including identifying details about other people.

The FAQ’s statement that data is “never sold or shared without your consent” is a short summary. The policy separately describes disclosures to service providers, including providers supporting AI, hosting, security, and analytics, as well as other situations. These are described as part of operating the services and the policy’s stated practices. Read the FAQ and policy together: the FAQ explains logging and memory in broad terms, while the policy provides the more detailed account of collection, use, and disclosure.

Section 2

What does the privacy policy explain—and what does it leave open?

The policy outlines several purposes for collecting information, including providing and personalizing the service, analyzing use, communicating with users, marketing and advertising, and addressing fraud, safety, and compliance needs. It describes categories of information and types of recipients, but it does not give a reader a simple conversation-by-conversation retention schedule or a detailed technical account of how every conversation is stored and processed.

On retention, the policy says personal information is kept as long as necessary for the purposes described, with the period depending on factors such as the type of service and the relationship with the user. It also says information may be retained after account deletion for certain stated exceptions or to handle data-related requests, and that copies may remain in backup storage for a limited time. The policy does not specify one universal number of days for deleting all conversation data.

On security, the company says it makes reasonable efforts to use physical and electronic safeguards. It also says no electronic transmission or storage can be entirely secure and gives no guarantee of security or privacy. That limitation matters: a privacy policy is a description of stated practices and limits, not independent proof of the system’s security. The pages reviewed do not establish a security certification, and this article does not establish an independent security assessment.

Section 3

How can you request account and data deletion?

The FAQ gives an in-app account deletion route: open Tolan, tap the profile icon in the upper right, tap the gear icon

then open “Profile” and choose “Delete account” at the bottom. It also points users who need help to support@tolans.com.

The privacy policy describes a separate route for a request to delete information from the services: send a message through the app. If you cannot access the app, it says to email support@tolans.com and provide your name, your Tolan’s name, and the date of your last known app session. Because the FAQ’s account-deletion steps and the policy’s deletion-request instructions are presented differently, use the in-app option if available and contact support if you need confirmation or cannot complete it.

Deletion should not be assumed to mean that every copy vanishes immediately. The policy says some information may be kept for certain stated exceptions and that copies can remain in backups for a limited time. It does not give a fixed deadline for every category. If the timing or scope matters to you, ask support what the deletion request covers and whether any information is retained temporarily or for a stated reason.

Section 4

A simple way to decide what ordinary information to share

Before sharing something, ask yourself:

These questions support a practical middle ground: share only what helps with the conversation you want, and leave out details that would create avoidable exposure. For example, you can ask for help planning a general weekly routine without including your full address, account credentials, or another person’s private information.

Would I be comfortable with this becoming part of a stored conversation or Tolan memory? The FAQ says conversations are logged and used for memory.
Does this identify me or someone else more than the conversation needs? The policy says prompts can include text, audio, and images, and that personal information in prompts may be collected or reproduced in outputs.
Would I mind if the service provider ecosystem involved in operating the app processed it? The policy describes disclosures to AI, hosting, security, and analytics providers.
Would I be comfortable with this detail remaining for some time if I later delete my account? The policy allows for stated exceptions and limited backup retention, without specifying a single universal deletion timeline.
Section 5

What can you conclude from the public pages?

Tolan’s FAQ is explicit that conversations are logged and used to generate memory. Its privacy policy gives a broader description of collection, purposes, disclosures, retention, deletion requests, and the limits of its security assurances. Those statements are useful for deciding whether the app’s approach fits your comfort level, but they cannot establish absolute safety or settle every question about a particular interaction.

If you need a detail the pages do not make clear—such as how long a specific kind of conversation is retained, how a deletion request applies to memory, or whether a particular control is available in your app version—ask Tolan support directly before sharing information that depends on the answer.
