The number left after subtracting fixed commitments is not automatically usable personal time. A realistic estimate starts with the time you can choose, removes work, classes, care, sleep, meals, travel, and recurring chores, then protects a modest buffer for transitions and changes. What remains is a capacity estimate, not a promise. It tells you whether a reading session, walk, creative project, or quiet conversation has a plausible place in the week.
