How to Avoid Overwriting a Digimon When Using a Vital Bracelet VS Memory
If you’re using a VS Memory (also called a VS Dim) to battle between compatible Vital Bracelets, treat it as a temporary handoff: send your Digimon to the card, complete the battle, then return that same card to the original bracelet. Do not use it to load another Digimon before the first one has returned. Bandai’s manual says to put the card back in the original bracelet within 10 minutes after the battle; missing that window risks losing the Digimon’s data. The steps below focus on the original Vital Bracelet generation and compatible models.
First, identify the device and card
The VS Memory is the small card labeled “VS Memory” that comes with original-platform Vital Bracelets. It moves a Digimon’s data between two compatible bracelets so they can battle. Bandai’s manual describes saving the Digimon onto the VS Dim, reading it on the second bracelet for a battle, and returning it to the first bracelet afterward. The Digivice -V- and Vital Hero belong to this earlier platform family; the Vital Bracelet BE does not support VS Dim battles. Bandai’s Vital Bracelet instruction manual
Before you begin, check that you have the right item and device:
Confirm the card is a VS Memory/VS Dim, rather than a regular character Dim card or a BE Memory.
Confirm both bracelets can use VS Dim battles. A Vital Bracelet BE is not compatible with the VS Memory.
Have the original bracelet—the one currently holding your Digimon—ready for the return step. Keep the card with you until that bracelet has read it back.
Why the Digimon can seem to disappear
The first bracelet writes the Digimon’s data onto the VS card. During that handoff, the Digimon disappears from the first bracelet while its data is away. The second bracelet then reads the card and runs the battle. Afterward, the result is written to the card, which must go back to the first bracelet so the Digimon can return and the battle result can be saved. Wikimon’s VS Dim overview describes the same sequence, including the 10-minute return window.
That temporary disappearance is part of the transfer sequence; it does not mean you should start a fresh transfer or load a different Digimon while the original is away. The card is serving as a handoff point, not as a separate long-term archive. As a practical precaution, keep the sequence uninterrupted and do not treat the card as available for another use until the original bracelet confirms the return.
Before the battle: prepare the return
Set both bracelets out before inserting the card. Make sure the original bracelet is on and usable, and place it beside the card so you can return the VS Memory immediately after the battle. If you are helping someone else, agree in advance who will operate each bracelet and who will return the card.
Check that the original bracelet’s home screen shows the Digimon you intend to send. This simple check helps avoid mixing up devices or returning the card to the wrong one. Do not begin if you cannot promptly access the original bracelet or if you are unsure which device holds the Digimon. The 10-minute deadline begins after the battle, so preparation matters most at the end.
Transfer and battle in the correct order
Follow the bracelet’s on-screen prompts and leave the card inserted until the device tells you to remove it. The documented sequence is:
Insert the VS Memory into the bracelet holding the Digimon and wait for the transfer to finish.
Remove the card when prompted, then insert it into the other compatible bracelet.
Leave the card in place during the battle. Wait for the bracelet to finish and prompt you to remove it.
Take the card straight back to the original bracelet and insert it there.
Wait for the return transfer to complete and verify that your Digimon appears on the original bracelet again.
Bandai’s manual says the initial copy takes about 50 seconds and depicts transfer-complete screens. Use the device prompts rather than estimating the time or pulling the card early. Bandai’s instruction manual
How to avoid an accidental overwrite
The safest rule is to finish the return before beginning another transfer. Do not put the VS Memory into a different bracelet to send another Digimon while the first Digimon is still away. Do not assume that reinserting the card into the battle partner’s bracelet will return it to its owner; the return step is to the original bracelet.
Also avoid interrupting a transfer. Wait for the on-screen prompt before removing the card, and do not power down or switch to another operation mid-transfer. If you are uncertain whether a step completed, pause and check the display instead of starting the sequence over with another Digimon. These precautions follow the manual’s transfer sequence and reduce the chance of confusing which Digimon is on the card.
A regular Dim card is a separate item used to load a Digimon egg or access its content; it is not the VS Memory handoff card. Inserting a regular Dim starts a different operation. If your Digimon has not returned, do not try to solve that by loading a new egg or using another card. First complete the VS Memory return to the original bracelet.
If your Digimon is missing after the battle
Return the VS Memory to the original bracelet as soon as possible, and follow its prompts through completion. Bandai warns that failing to return the card within 10 minutes after the battle risks loss of the Digimon data. If the original bracelet does not immediately show the Digimon, check whether the return transfer finished and whether the correct bracelet was used. Do not start another battle or transfer while you are troubleshooting.
The independent Vital Bracelet manual guide by Humulos notes that a Digimon can temporarily appear missing if the steps are not followed, and says it may return on its own after 10 minutes; it also cautions that an error in the sequence can cause a loss. That is a community guide, not a substitute for Bandai’s stated deadline, so the practical response is to return the card promptly rather than rely on automatic recovery. Know the limits of the VS Memory
The VS Memory workflow applies to the earlier Vital Bracelet family and compatible devices, not the Vital Bracelet BE. Bandai’s BE documentation and community references distinguish the BE from earlier models; the VS Dim is not supported on BE. Wikimon’s Dim Card reference
Think of the card as a temporary bridge for one battle sequence: confirm the starting Digimon, send it, battle, return it to its original bracelet within 10 minutes, and confirm it is back before moving on. That final check is the clearest safeguard against accidentally replacing or losing the Digimon you meant to keep.
